Our $75,000 Challenge
Thank you. We met our $75k challenge and a bit more. We are very grateful for the support and wish to thank everyone who made this possible. Please keep in mind that rescue happens every day. There are more dogs in need now than there ever have been. Some owners abandon their dogs, like Richard in North Carolina (upper left), when they can’t care for them anymore. Many municipal shelters are so full they turn away strays, like Gus and Leo (upper right) found in Pennsylvania. Lack of funds and staff has resulted in shelters limiting basic services like vaccinations, heartworm tests or spay/neuters. Big dogs are discriminated against the most because they take up more room in crowded shelters and cost more to vet.
Some municipalities do not have any animal control or shelter at all, like Smith County, TN. Mork, lower left, was picked up by a woman who has been rounding up dogs there and routing them to rescues. Overcrowded shelters now refer owners in hoarding situations directly to rescue, which is how we got Waffles (lower right) in Kentucky.
Bottom line— we have to find fosters, arrange transport and pay the going rate for veterinary services—and we can’t pass these increased costs along to adopters. We know we’ve haven’t seen the last of abandoned Pyrs running loose. Rescue is their only hope.

We are very thankful to the people and foundations who have made it possible to offer match funding this year. Rescue is tough in so many ways and your donation will multiply what we can do when there are so very many needy dogs.
