Rufus Is Our Top Dog

We all know not every Pyr is perfect so when one comes along who almost is, it's fun to celebrate him. Rufus was a skinny owner surrender to a pound in western Oklahoma when Great Pyrenees Rescue of Oklahoma pulled him and put him on the path to adoption. You can see more happy endings like this in the preview of our 2020 calendar.

Rufus made the long journey from Oklahoma to North Carolina to join the pack of a NGPR adopter who had moved from New York to North Carolina. Wanda and her partner Patricia had adopted their Pyr Lily when they were in New York, and she was one of the dogs who welcomed Rufus into their home.

In addition to Lily, were Zoe, a mini Australian Shepherd, Buddy the poodle, and Stinky the Sheltie-mix. The pack was later joined by Ginger, a Pyr/hound mix who was also adopted from GPRO in March, 2014 and Ace, a Pyr from NGPR Louisiana who came as a foster in 2015 and never left.

Rufus traveled 1300 miles from Oklahoma to North Carolina to find his happy home with Wanda and Patricia.  Many of the dogs on the East Coast can travel 1000 miles or more, and the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society dogs who travel from Houston to the Northwest can travel 2500 miles to reach their final destination. Rescue is not about where you are but where you're going.

NGPR is happy to present our 2020 Happy Endings calendar and the 225 dogs included in its pages who made it to their happy homes. This is our 11th calendar and we're happy to salute the Top Dogs and calendar dogs who have appeared in the calendars from 2010-2020.
