ASPCA/Subaru “Share the Love” Rescue Rides

First Rescue Ride of 2016

We didn’t wait a minute, took hardly a glance back at 2015, then fueled up on January 1 for our first rescue transport of 2016.

This transport is different. It is funded in part by a grant from the ASPCA, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®. Our donors and members provide the rest. National Pyr is one of 49 animal welfare organizations who received funding for Subaru “Share the Love” Rescue Rides in 2016. We couldn’t wait to get started! Our first transport left Lexington KY on New Year’s Day and concluded January 2 in Albany, NY.

Fourteen dogs were moved to adopters and fosters in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York and New England. It  took 30 hours to get them there and it was worth every minute.

The ASPCA/Subaru “Share the Love” grant will provide funding for two more Rescue Rides in the first half of 2016. The ASPCA granted a total of $189,000 for this program to animal welfare organizations across the country. The purpose of Subaru “Share the Love” Rescue Rides are to fund the safe transport of sheltered dogs from localities where supply exceeds demand to areas where demand matches the supply of adoptable dogs.

From the very beginning when we started in 2006, our mission has been to transfer Pyrs and Pyr mixes from places with an overpopulation of dogs to areas where more adoption opportunities exist. We’re glad this effort has been recognized and supported by one of our country’s leading animal welfare organizations. We thank our volunters, members, fans and donors for being part of this journey. Stay tuned for more “Share the Love” Rescue Rides in 2016.  We’re on our way.
