Meet Nelson! This young boy has all the Pyr qualities we know and love with a bit more energy. With a little more training, Nelson will make a great family dog - he is a young, active and independent boy who loves himself a bit of mischief :) He is housebroken and walks pretty well on a leash. Nelson absolutely loves to get his energy out and will make a great running or jogging companion for his humans. Once he’s adjusted to his new environment, he sits on command, loves hugs and getting pets. He’s very smart, a quick learner and would benefit from an active, female canine sibling to show him the ropes of his new home. Nelson is good with female dogs but he can be selective with other males. Nelson has never met a stranger and is very friendly greeting people out on walks. He absolutely loves car rides and enjoys adventures to new places, like going with you to stores where pups are allowed. Because Nelson has lots of energy, he will need an active family to take him on lots of walks and provide a big fenced in yard to run around and play in. Nelson loves his toys and bones and can be a little protective of them at times but we haven’t seen anything serious. He enjoys being a thief and stealing things such as blankets and boxes of Milkbones :) Nelson is a Pyr-lover’s Pyr and is looking for a family that has time to spend with him and who will appreciate a good Pyr paw! We'd like to see Nelson placed with another young to adult active female dog. This loveable, handsome, goofball will make the Pyrfect addition to an active home with a sense of humor and time to commit to helping him reach his full potential!

NYS Registered Rescue # RR102

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
